The ALKALI SILICATES
- Alkali Silicates are most widely used chemical with a generic formula (A20)x.(SiO2)y. Here A can be any of the three Alkalis – Sodium (Na), Potassium (K) or Lithium (Li) and y/x is called the Ratio of the silicate.
- Sodium Silicate is most widely used due to low cost & versatile application. In some applications Sodium is not acceptable and avoided.
- Potassium Silicates are more expensive and are used in paints, crop care formulations etc. where Sodium is not desired.
- Lithium Silicates are very expensive, offers very low alkalinity, very high ratio and are preferred for professional concrete surface treatment, speciality paints & coatings, glazes etc.
- Silicates are used both as Liquids & Granules. They are produced in various ratios (1 to 4 mostly, though Lithium can go upto 7.5) and density to fit into different applications.
SILICATE - Conventional Process
